Waltzing Matilda is a famous early Australian ballad which depicted a swagman travelling on foot (waltzing) and all his belongings were kept in his swag (Matilda) he carried on his back. My interpretation as a young child was a woman waltzing, dressed in a beautiful ball gown inspired by Haute Couture against the vibrant colours of the Australian landscape. Very relevant today when we dream of such freedoms.
Created in a size which possesses tapestry qualities in a room.
Acrylic and oil on canvas - 190 x 240cm
